AC/a attends 2016 DBA Dairy Strong Event

Again this year AC/a was proud to be able to attend the 2016 DBA Dairy Strong Event hosted in Madison, WI.  The three-day conference provided educational seminars, expert presentations, panel discussions, a trade show, and networking and entertainment.   AC/a representatives, Dave McDaniel and Mike Bucher, were front and center to meet with new and current customers to discuss their agricultural project needs. The nearly 600 dairy farmers and agribusiness representatives were made up of participants from 17 other states and three other countries.   So needless to say the DBA had another successful year with the Dairy Strong Event and AC/a was glad to be apart of it.

Hosting Business After Hours with Aloha Style!

Hosting the February Menomonie Chamber Business After Hours was just one of the many activities that Auth Consulting & Associates did to celebrate it's 20th year in business.  AC/a partnered with local businesses, Verizon B-mobile and the Stout Ale House, to pull off the warm weather themed event.  Chamber members were greeted with leis, the sounds of reggae music and the smells of island cuisine.  The event offered a welcomed mental retreat from the Wisconsin winter and provided great networking opportunities for all that attended.

Alfalawn Farms

Alfalawn Farms is an expanding dairy farm operated by the Styer Family and located in Dunn County, Wisconsin.  AC/a provided engineering services to work along with Komro Sales to assist Alfalawn Farms in expanding their dairy operations from about 500 cows, plus replacement animals, to about 2,300 cows with a corresponding expansion of heifer and calf raising facilities.  AC/a staff provided site design, engineering for waste transfer, treatment and storage facilities.  Auth Consulting was also able to assist Alfalawn in obtaining County and WDNR permits.

The expansion included a new dairy cow barn and rotary parlor, calf barn, heifer barn, two concrete lined waste storage facilities, and a new feed pad with runoff management system.  AC/a helped the Styers locate and plan the expanded operation as they considered various options for location and size.  AC/a provided preliminary estimates of construction costs that assisted Styers in determining a preferred location for operations.  The farm expanded in 2014 and 2015 by adding a cross-ventilated dairy cow barn and milking center at the home farm.  Heifer facilities have been constructed on the adjacent parcel to the north.  Waste storage structures were added at both the main farm and the heifer site.

Sterling Ponds Flood Analysis

In 2009, as part of FEMA's map modernization process, a floodplain was mapped in Sterling Ponds residential subdivision in River Falls.  The dry run was a previously unmapped waterway and FEMA mapping did not take into account significant grading that occurred in 2002 as part of the overall subdivision construction.  Working with the City of River Falls, AC/a completed a flood study, which defined the hydrology characteristics of the drainage basin and hydraulic characteristics of the channel.  AC/a utilized HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling software as part of a letter of map revision (LOMAR) submittal to FEMA.  The study ultimately removed multiple structures from having to pay annual flood insurance premiums.

Again in 2015, AC/a completed a Flood Study for the City of River Falls as part of the Sterling Ponds Corporate Park.  Another letter of map revision (LOMAR) was submitted to FEMA, to define the floodplain, including a portion of relocated channel.  The study involved a drainage basin to the site of approximately 8.4 square miles (5,400 acres).
